The Wolfpack is definitely back.

Despite very modest word of mouth for 2011's blockbuster sequel, buzz for The Hangover Part III kicked into high gear over the last few days with the release of the film's first trailer late last week.

This entry has already been the target of speculation because of not only the previous installment's decline in audience approval from the original but also because the "trilogy finale" opens head-to-head with another highly anticipated summer flick on Memorial Day weekend: Fast & Furious 6.

Some have even criticized Warner Bros.' lack of marketing for this sequel so far, but those skeptics have now been silenced. So far, the studio should be quite pleased.

Well that's interesting. It's too early but i still think that general audience didn't hate the sequel as the internet forums do. And i think that the teaser managed to bring lots of awareness.

It will decrease from the second one but if it's a good film i can see the drop being relatively small.

I think that The Hangover and Fast Six opening on the same weekend is just a fail from Warner Bros. and Universal. I honestly think they tried to pressure each other into moving their movie to another weekend, so they could have that weekend for themselves. It obviously didn't work since no one acted, and it's too late now. Both movies will suffer from this... a lot.

I still think F6 has a very slight advantage and may open larger, but in the event TH3 can bring back fans then it's legs might be strong enough to get it near $200 million and top F6. Definitely the most interesting weekend battle of the year, IMHO.

It would be advantageous for either movie but I think Fast 6 has more advantage to move since it is already the third action tent pole of the month also it can maybe get IMAX if it moves to a different date

After The Hangover 3, I think we can finally officially include it into future "best trilogies ever made" conversations  :P

Seriously, I just hope for a good comedy, that seems really rare lately. Hangover 1 is pure awesome. Hangover 2 while flawed is still okay in my book, better than lots of crap comedies last year IMO. So if Hangover 3 can just approach the first one's quality, I'm glad.

And I think this one has a very good chance of repeating its predecessors's success and cross 200M. Opening might be hurt a little by competitions but again, good quality will leg its there (finger-crossed)

One that, hopefully, us movie fans will benefit from.

Fast 6 and Hangover both seem to have the same jock/fratboy audience.

They're going to flat out cannibalize each other.

Unless one moves, sub-80 million OW for both.

Who says it can't get a little IMAX release on Memorial Day weekend? Star Trek is opening in IMAX two days before its full release.

Star Trek will have them locked up for several weeks similar to how Transformers 2 and Dark Knight did since it was actually filmed in IMAX

There's a much shorter list of "best comedy trilogies".

American Pie

Back to the Future

Meet the Fockers

Jackass

National Lampoons Vacation

I'd say Back to the Future is easily wins but The Hangover could make it in the top 3 if the third is good (behind Vacation).

Is there actual documentation that says Star Trek has IMAX screens locked up for several weeks? Is 'since it was filmed in IMAX' a legitimate reason to say it owns IMAX screens for several weeks?

Fast six already have the Latinos locked down. That's their Massive fan base.

Fast Six has a very prominent girlfight that could attract more females.

I'm a skeptic and I'm still not silenced ;) jk. I'm 19, I fit in the demo. All of my friends are in the demo. I even posted my friends trailer responses on here after I texted it to them, guys and girls. I agree with Michael G Scott, don't let your personal feelings affect predicts, but I'm still confident reception isn't as enthusiastic as that article says and WB's marketing is still lacking. I'm in college and a good bit of people here didn't even realize Hangover 3 was coming out until I texted them the trailer or brought it up in convo. TH2 was a raunchier TH, this looks like a more violent TH; I hope the giraffe isn't the money shot/punch line. Now, Hangover is Hangover.

Positives..

-Finale factor/wolfpack is back, it can still milk its title, new storyline, new characters - Mel McC, John Goodman, Jade's back, (hopefully Carlos is back too), first straight up comedy since Scary Movie 5

Negatives...

-Competition, The Hangover 2 (which I personally don't hate, but it was a deterrent for a lot of the GA), the darker tone may turn off some, part 3 fatigue, if a lot of teens sneak in like some are saying, they're going to buy something for PG-13, so TH3 won't even get their money.

-Warner Bros marketing is a mix right now.

In the end I see $180M-$220M, still too early to call, but IMO it doesn't come close to F6 in OW or final gross. If there's still time to move, Hangover 3 needs to be it, not F6, but I see both staying at this point. Memorial weekend and Summer 2013 are going to be pretty interesting.

yes, of course, the movie was made for IMAX therefore IMAX theaters will want that movie, while something like Fast 6 will be a conversion. A real IMAX movie would attract more people
