Just from the trailers, the robots don't seem as well rendered and well designed as the monsters, which seem very realistic and truly unique.  Thus, I'm surprised that the reviews mainly praise the robots. I'm cool with it, though.

So based on good reviews (82% RT rating, 7.9/10 the average score) and strong buzz plus the lack of fun big-budget sci-fi until Elysium, I guess I wanna see Pacific Rim now! Bring on the monsters vs. robots action - sounds a lot deeper than the Transformers meets Godzilla with a Dubstep soundtrack movie WB tried to sell everyone for the last 5-6 months.

Well, I guess I was wrong on Pacific Rim

46 OW/162 Total

I guess it won't get massacred by GU2 and DM2 after all if it's as good as the reviews are saying! Nothing wrong with an original summer blockbuster doing well!! :) maybe Del Toro can make his Mountain of Madness film with Tom Cruise like he wanted.

Grown Ups 2 won't do horrible though... I think it has less competition so I could definitely see it beating out PR in the long run

48.5 OW/173 Total

Hoping both do well to keep up the record summer we've been having at the box office (ticket sales are the highest since 2002/2003/2004 according to many sites!)

I'm seeing it in Real IMAX. Just means it's an upconverted movie, that's all.

That sucks.

It should still be worth to see it in Imax.

The CG is native 3D, so I have no problem paying a bit more to see it in IMAX.

IMAX is a trademarked name, so it's probably your theatrical chain's version of a LieMAX.

Since I give all three JP's, Godzilla 1998, Dinosaur, first three Ice Ages, King Kong 2005, Transformers 1 and 3, and Cloverfield a 5/5, anything less for Pacific Rim by me would be a real disappointment!

Like what tele said.

It is most likely a 4k project with a good sound system and a big screen.

For the most part, I doubt theaters are getting a 4K file. At this point, IMAX uses two 2K projectors and stacks the image one on top of the other.
