As Godzilla blew past industry expectations with a monstrous $93.2 million domestic bow last weekend, it also established the market's longest drought without a $100 million opener in nearly three years.

Through May 18, it's been 25 weekends since The Hunger Games: Catching Fire reached $158.1 million in November, topping the 24-week gap between Iron Man 3 ($174.1 million) and November 2012's Twilight finale,Breaking Dawn Part 2 ($141.1 million). There was a similar 23-week wait between Catching Fire itself andMan of Steel ($116.6 million).

Overall, the current 25-week span is the third longest period without a $100 million opener since 2008. The two longer stints:... (More)

HTTYD 2. The lack of animated films will push kids in drove in the OW.

I'm thinking the same, especially with kids and parents combine helps push through 100 million.  DOFP is just a week after Godzilla and could divert many movie goers to watch Godzilla if they haven't seen it in the first weekend.  Any competition for HTTYD2?  How about TF4?  If none, then TF4 is almost likely able to do it.

X-Men DOFP would have to drop at least 25% in attendance from X3 not to do it. Or putting it in better terms, it would have to basically duplicate X-Men Origins Wolverine's attendance even with a Memorial Day boost.

Hard to see any of them hitting 100 for the 3-day. Transformers is most likely, but I really doubt it. Particularly when it has the whole holiday week to play right after.

22 Jump Street is coming out on the same day as HTTYD2, so that could divert some.

You are really underpredicting Maleficent here, it'll do at least high 90s and if the reviews are great there's no chance it misses 100M

/Sean B (or whoever it is :D)

Seriously, TF4, don't think the other two have a big chance :)

None.

Thinking similar to F6 for X-Men. Dragon $47M to $100M? In 2014. Naw. Like Rich said, TF4 will have Independence holiday to leg it out and I dont think it's as mighty as it used to be either, like Spiderman.

So likely no $100M till November. But like 5 $90 millers. What the fuck, 2014?

TOMORROW. IT ALL COMES CRASHING DOWN. FORUM GAMES PART 18! READ 17 NOW!

X Men, and Transformers will do it. I think Dragon is going to disappoint a lot around here.

I think neither will. It will be the first summer movie without a 100m opener imo.

Heh! Not just him but everyone else.

I swear there are more Maleficent fanboy / fangirls, then there are Hunger Game ones on this board.
