When it comes to 2014, the name of the game between April and August will again be "superheroes". During that span, four properties from Marvel (two as part of the Avengers-related Marvel Cinematic Universe) will make their way into multiplexes. Over the past two weeks, fans have seen their first official glimpse at two of them: Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past. As the kick-off to their respective marketing campaigns, how are their teaser trailers faring?

Quite well. The Winter Soldier teaser generated nearly 65,000 tweets during the week after its October 24 debut. Among 2013's comic adaptations, that's behind Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World (which have arguably eaten up the majority of carryover Avengers goodwill), but significantly ahead of Man of Steel andThe Wolverine. Fans certainly intrigued by the Captain America sequel as it promises to have the most connections to The Avengers with Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson returning as Black Widow and Nick Fury, alongside Chris Evans' titular character. Look no further than the unprecedented 100 percent anticipation score from nearly 70,000 Flixster users--more than The First Avenger the day before its release--for evidence that the original Avenger has gained a lot of audience traction.

The April 4 debut for Winter Soldier is a new strategy for the MCU. As this week's Thor sequel marks the first of the series to debut outside of summer, next year's Captain America follow-up will be the first Avengerrelease outside a major moviegoing season (summer or holiday). The industry's recent bid to turn April into an extension of early summer (see 2011's Fast Five and March 2012's The Hunger Games) could make this a two-pronged benefit for Disney: the flick will release in a less competitive market, and could potentially steal some thunder from Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2--set for a May 2 release as the "official" summer kick-off.

Not long after Spidey swings back into theaters will come director Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past(May 23)... (more)

Is X-men DOFP the new BOF's favourite pet after MoS ("locked over 300M"), TH:AUJ ("locked over 350M") and TDKR ("locked over 500M") to win blockbuster season?

As much as I loath TASM, I don't see X-men DOFP outgrossing TASM2 at all. I'm doubting CA:TWS as well which won't increase as much as Thor 2.

I can understand the positive reaction to the CA trailer as there was plenty of action and a mysterious bad guy in it to go along with the familiar faces. It was a well-made trailer. However that X6 trailer was awful. I'd rather be waterboarded for two minutes than have to watch that crap again. It's amazing how low moviegoing standards have reached nowadays when that trailer is warmly received.

Wait, shouldn't X Men Days of Future Past be X7? Or do you really think Origins was that bad? :pTo Lonepirate.

Shawn should get a radio show discussing box office numbers. And he could then interview us! :)

I only count the movies in which the overexposed Wolverine character is prominently featured. His blink and you'll miss him appearance in FC can be overlooked. And yes, X4 was really that bad. It was the R.I.P.D. of the X franchise. Considering the common element of the two films, that's not surprising.

You need to check into rehab if you think TA2 isn't going to make a dent in AVATAR 2's box office

VII Predictions

Unless Cameron offers SMELL-O-VISION with AVATAR 2, It's not doing more than 400M Plus ..  And YES, I'll bet AVATAR 2 doesn't do more than at best 425M Domestic

No. IM is its on series, while TA is on there series. Maybe all part of the Marvel franchise.

FC is more inline with the X-Men films than IM is with TA IMO.

What difference does It make? it's still another series. Even If that's the case, I would consider IM2 a prequel to TA.
